History

Serious Engineering can trace its heritage back to 1772 when George Haden was Foreman of the machine shop where James Watt perfected his first steam engine.

Haden’s sons, George and James, were both apprentices to James Watt and eventually started their own company - through Haden Building Management, Balfour Beatty, Romec Enterprise Ltd and now Serious Engineering; this historic pedigree informs everything we stand for today. Serious Engineering now continues this established reputation, supported by our solid ownership structure.

The result of such an auspicious heritage and pedigree is that Serious Engineering’s starting stance is absolute reliability.
Our firm desire to grow beyond the expectations of the industry is what sets us apart, decade after decade.

Capabilities

Serious Engineering is housed over two locations.

We have a 47,000 square foot Production Workshop in Longbenton, and a 30,000 square foot Assembly Plant in Cramlington which sits alongside a 23,000 square foot warehouse storage space.  Between the two sites, there’s not much we can’t handle – we even keep highly skilled finishing in house in order to maintain responsibility for quality control across all stages of fabrication. An example of this is Powder Coating, a craft most engineering company’s subcontract out to external suppliers.
